Pallet Wine Art

So in the process of finishing our kitchen, Will (my boyfriend) thought he’d get creative with some old pallet wood that often you can find for free.  (Though not recommended often times you can find them behind places of business discarded for one or two broken planks.)

The most difficult part is destructing the pallet without splitting the boards.  The key is to go slow and use a hammer to remove the nails if possible.

Once the breaking down is done, it becomes a matter of finding inspiration of what to build.  Many ideas can be found on Pinterest.  If you don’t have a Pinterest account, GET ONE.  You can find anything!  Also there are many sites that provide ideas; all you have to do is Google it.  We had some of our own ideas spawn from ones we found online.

So, Will broke down our pallets long before we got to building, making that something we didn’t have to worry about doing on the spot.  Honestly, we just sort of drew up an idea of what we wanted our racks to look like and didn’t worry about measurements until we were cutting the wood.  We pretty much had a whole wall set aside to put these up but it’s a skinny wall and I hated for the racks to be too wide.

After the wood was cut we used nails to put the racks together.

This is a picture of the bottle rack we built.

So after we built the racks we decided to stain them the color of our cabinets.  We have a weathered gray look to our cabinets and that fits with the color scheme of our kitchen really well.

Once the racks were built and stained, we screwed them into the wall at an angle.  This way we were sure the screws hit the studs. (I’d hate to have all my nice crystal wine glasses hitting the floor). And The End!! Perfect out of the way and attractive place to store our wine glasses and wine bottles yet to be enjoyed!
